Official currency of Hungary
The Hungarian Forint, often denoted HUF and abbreviated Ft. The forint was introduced in 1946. Until recently, the forint was comprised of 100 filler, but circulation of the filler stoped in 1999. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Hungarian National Bank) will withdraw from circulation HUF 1 and 2 coins on 1 March 2008. The name of the forint comes from Florence.

Currency Regulations

There is no restriction on the importing of convertible currencies if the amount does not exceed the equivalent of 1,000,000 Ft. For the import of currencies over this amount, it is advisable to fill out a "Certification of Values Entered". The declaration should be made both entering and leaving the territory of Hungary. If large amounts of undeclared currency are discovered during routine inspections, the customs authority may investigate and, if a criminal act is suspected, initiate criminal proceedings. You need to know when traveling to Hungary, there is currency import and export restrictions:
For import and export, local currency exceeding 350,000
Forint requires permission from the Hungarian National Bank (MNB).
For export, amounts equivalent to 100,000 Forint require
permission from the Hungarian National Bank (MNB).
